The best backgrounds for slab photos
Updated 2026-10-26
The background decides whether your slab pops or disappears. Most collectors end up using one or two looks for every post so their feed looks consistent.
What works
- Black or very dark grey. Makes holos and bright card art stand out, and hides reflections in the case.
- Soft gradients. Add depth without distracting from the card.
- A color pulled from the card. A blue backdrop behind a Blastoise ties the post together.
What to avoid
- Carpet, bedsheets and wood grain. They show through clear holders and look messy.
- Bright white. It's hard to light evenly and makes the edges of the slab disappear.
- Busy patterns. The card should be the only detail in the photo.
Stay consistent
Pick one backdrop and stick with it. A consistent profile grid makes your account look like a collection, not a camera roll.
