How to photograph CGC slabs
Updated 2026-10-26
CGC holders are clear and thick, with the label at the top. The same rules as any slab apply, with a couple of differences.
Watch the label
CGC labels are glossy and catch light easily. Angle the slab until the label is clear of reflections before you worry about the card.
Mind the edges
The thick sides of the holder bend light at the edges of the card. Shoot straight on from directly above so the card's borders stay even.
Dark backgrounds
Clear holders pick up the color of whatever is behind them. A dark background keeps the case looking clean. Light or patterned surfaces show through.
Clean before you shoot
Wipe the front with a microfiber cloth. Thick holders show dust and fingerprints very clearly.
Cut it out
Grailshot works with CGC slabs the same as PSA. Drop in your photo and it finds the holder, cuts it out and places it on a backdrop.
